Taking it outdoors

Today’s workout was quick, fun, and sweaty!  The best kinda workout if you ask me.

I headed over to Breakheart Reservation and ran about 1.5 HILLY miles until I reached the playground.  I then made up a circuit workout which included the following moves:

  • 12 push-ups leaning against a bar
  • 12 pull-ups on the bar
  • 20 walking lunges
  • 1 minute mountain climbers
  • 1 minute plank

**Repeat 3 times**

Between the touch workout, the crazy humidity, and being out of shape, I was huffin’ and puffin’ in no time at all!  I rested for a couple of minutes after the last circuit and then ran the rest of the loop (about 1.5 miles) back to my car.

(So quiet and peaceful)

The workout took about 40 minutes and left me feeling great.  And hopefully got me back into my workout groove!

Btw, It’s workouts like this that make me question my gym membership.  Seriously, doing a plank on the grass while listening to the birds is a 1 bajillion times better than doing a plank on a nasty mat at the gym.  Right?!?  For now on if it’s nice out, I’m taking my workout outdoors! 🙂

Tonight’s dinner came together in no time at all thanks to a bag of frozen shrimp stir fry and a bag of frozen corn.

This meal took about 7 minutes to prepare and tasted delicious!  Trader Joe’s really does has the best frozen foods aisle.

I also added shredded mozzarella on top and a glass of wine on the side.  Yummm!

…..And before I log off here’s a couple of pictures of pretty flowers that I bought for myself 😉

Have a great night, everyone!

Do you prefer doing workouts indoors or outdoors??

Hill Repeats & Mexican Shrimp Salad.

Oh hello! Long time no talk, right?! I lost my blogging motivation for a couple of weeks but I’m backkkk!

I have a half marathon on Sunday and I’m really not ready for it. And I’m not just saying that to be modest. I’m like really not ready to run a half marathon right now. Just like how I took a break from blogging, I also let working-out and running take a back seat while I focused on moving into our new house. So yeah, this race has crept up on me and I now have 3 days to prep myself.

Yesterday afternoon I went out for an easy 20 minute run around my neighborhood….

and then did a bunch of hill repeats to complete my workout. This involved “sprinting” up a long, steady hill as fast as I could go, jogging down the hill and then resting for 1-2 minutes in between each set. And repeat.

Let me tell ya, I was dying! Hills kick my ass every single time!

In preparation for Cinco De Mayo I decided to prepare a healthy Mexican salad for dinner last night. I picked a couple of ingredients at Trader Joe’s and got to work. I combined the following ingredients in a bowl and used the greek yogurt guacamole as the dressing. It turned out tasting awesome!!

Btw wouldn’t that be nice if we celebrated this holiday with a week long festivities??  A week full of corona lights, margarita’s, tortilla chips and guacamole! 🙂

Healthy, Easy Mexican Shrimp Salad!

  • romaine lettuce
  • canned corn
  • canned black beans
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • Mexican blend shredded cheese
  • cooked, marinated shrimp (I used the frozen Thai Lime Shrimp Skewers from Trader Joe’s)
  • guacamole (I used the Trader Joe’s greek yogurt guac – so friggen good! This definitely stole the show.)

Before I sign off, I have to show you a pic’ of Rocky from yesterday because a) he begged me and b) it reinforces my belief that I really want to come back as a cat in my next life. Sleep, eat, sleep sounds pretty good to me.

Anyone else racing this weekend? Or training for a race?

What’d you have for dinner last night?

A sandwich to die for.

I did it!  I ran 10.5 miles after a full day of working yesterday!  I know I ran 11.5 on Tuesday but I also took a half day from work so that was so much easier.  There’s something about pushing yourself on a Friday evening when you’re already mentally & physically drained from the week.  But the weather was ideal for running upper 30s maybe 40 degrees (that’s ideal for me :)) and I just went out and did it.

I ended up staying in Southie for my run and ran the Castle Island loop twice and back along the beach.  My running days in Southie are limited so I’m trying to really appreciate every moment out there….   the views of the ocean, the smell of salt air, the sounds of the birds, all while running towards a beautiful luminated city skyline.  Yup, I’m gonna miss this route.

I finished my run 6:30pm and stretched while Mike prepped my all time favorite sandwich! This thing is not paleo or healthy but it’s amazingggg and you have to try it!

He prepared the sandwich opened faced and included sliced baked ham, sliced capocollo, sliced prosciutto, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, tomatoes and pesto on one side of the bread and the fresh mozzarella and grated cheese on the other half.  Next bake it at 350 for about 20-30 minutes, close the sandwich and enjoy!  You can basically add anything to this sandwich and it’ll turn out tasting DELISH. 🙂

Btw, I forgot to start this post off by telling you guys about our coffee yesterday morning.  Folger’s Caramel Drizzle + Dunkin’s Turbo + Silk’s original almond milk = so tasty!

Does anyone else only like Silk’s almond milk and no other brand of almond milk or is that just me?? I even like the Whole Food’s brand, weirddd.

The rest of my weekend will be spent working a track meet, checking my potential future house with my mom (fingers crossed!), maybe dealing with a snow storm tonight and then flying to Cali for the week!  Bring on the WARM WEATHER! 🙂

Questions for ya:

What are you doing this weekend? 🙂

What’s your favorite sandwich of all time?

What’s in your home-made coffee?
